Don’t look down. I got you.

Love conquers all. Not sure how many of you know their story but it’s one of the weddings that I was anticipating like crazy. I can’t express how lucky  I was to be a part of their day and be honored with the task of telling their story. I chose to use Ju-en’s quote that was introduced to me during our esession “Fuki, don’t look down. I got you.” Little did I know how the meaning behind it would send me reeling into a balling mess in public. But it was worth every tear. I want to share with you a little bit of “them” from what Fuki had shared with me. You will soon also realize what an amazing couple they are.

Ju-En was attending Columbia University and I was attending NYU when we first met. During my junior year, while working on a school project, I developed a sudden headache and became paralyzed on the left side of my body.  A rush to the ER would soon reveal that I had an intracerebral hemorrhage and that an operation was required to take out the clot from the brain.

My recovery was filled with nothing but sweet moments, due to the incredible outpouring of love and prayers from my family and friends.  They constantly encouraged me to persevere in the recovery process, as well as helped me to stay grateful for all that life had provided. Among these people was Ju-En:)  Although I still didn’t know him that well then, he supported me through his concerns and prayers.

After doing months of physical therapy, I regained enough strengths to return to school.  I eventually graduated and worked at a brokerage firm.  However, I felt a strong desire to give back what I had learned from my experiences, having a new sense of purpose and outlook in life.  I quit my job and applied to grad-school, where I pursued a project in finding ways to make the rehab-process more “fun” for stroke patients, especially through the use of games.  To this day, I’m still pursuing this as a personal project; and Ju-En has been incredibly supportive.

I’m thankful for what life has thrown at me.  Although I’m not as physically active as I used to be, I wouldn’t exchange the experiences that have taught me so much about love.  For our wedding, I want to not only proclaim my love and commitment to Ju-En, but also to express my gratitude to the families and friends, who have carried me through with the outpouring of their love, support and prayers.

And as for the quote:

Due to the weakness on my left foot, I have a tendency to look down at my feet when I’m walking so that I won’t trip.  But one of the first moments when I felt that Ju-En was THE ONE for me, was when we first started dating and he asked me to go hiking.  It was a bit surprising because a lot of people (who know me) would have avoided asking me to do physical activities that involved too much walking/running; and I myself also avoided those activities because I felt self-conscious and didn’t want to embarrass myself or be a burden to others.  But  Ju-En didn’t seem too concerned and helped me up/down the hills and reminded me that I’m still physically capable.  But as he noticed me concentrating more on my feet than the scenery, he held onto my arm and said exactly the quote that he wrote on the guitar.  I was feeling a bit self-conscious (and maybe overly cautious) but I felt so free after hearing him say that!:)

When I saw him write that on the guitar, I knew he was reminding me that he “got me” from falling :)

What to see their esession and the guitar message? Fuki & Ju-en’s Esession
